Origin :- 1650s, from Latin octagonos, from Greek oktagononos, literally "eight-angled," from okta- comb. form of okto "eight" (see eight) + gonia "angle," related to gony "knee" (see knee (n.)). Also octogon (1650s), from French octogone.
