Origin :- 1670s, "wine made in Burgundy," region and former duchy in France. The place name is from Medieval Latin Burgundia, from Late Latin Burgundiones, literally "highlanders," from PIE *bhrgh-nt- "high, mighty," from root *bhrgh- "high" (see borough).
