Definition of ultramarine
Origin :- 1590s, "blue pigment made from lapis lazuli," from Medieval Latin ultramarinus, literally "beyond the sea," from ultra- "beyond" + marinus "of the sea" (see marine). So called because the mineral was imported from Asia by sea.
